Hatsumi Sensei drew me this kanji several years ago. At that time it was the first time I even heard about this principle. Since then I did my best to incorporate „banpen fugyo“ into my taijutsu and daily life.

For me this principles means having a solid foundation (kihon) from which I can move freely into every direction and adapt to / embrace all changes that occur without being surprised. By not being surprised you can take on the role needed for each situation (juppo sessho as I understood it) and decide / act accordingly without hesitation to find the right way to move forward.

It’s just my opinion on this. Thanks to Soke for teaching us not only how to fight but also how to live.
